Kerzner International Holdings Limited, which through its subsidiaries is a leading international developer and operator of destination resorts, casinos and luxury hotels, in partnership with China Gezhouba Group Real Estate, is pleased to announce that construction has commenced on One&Only Sanya on Haitang Bay on Hainan in China. Featuring 192 luxurious guest rooms, suites and villas, One&Only Sanya will command enviable views of Azure waters from over 380 metres of private coastline and over 11 hectares of coconut palms set amidst dramatic water gardens throughout the resort. This will be the first resort in China for the ultra-luxury One&Only brand and is expected to establish a whole new level of luxury experience for the region.
One&Only Resorts are set in some of the most beautiful locations in the world. Each award-winning resort offers guests a distinctive style and personality borne of its local culture, a genuine hospitality and a lively energy that is unparalleled. These seven properties include the iconic One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives; One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius; One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai; One&Only Ocean Club in The Bahamas; One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico; One&Only Cape Town in South Africa and One&Only The Palm in Dubai. A further One&Only has been announced for Montenegro, the first resort in Europe for the collection, as well as One&Only Jeddah, the first resort in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition, the iconic Australian resort Hayman Island is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar refurbishment and will be reborn as One&Only Hayman Island on The Great Barrier Reef in 2016, when One&Only assumes management.
One&Only Sanya will establish the benchmark for ultra-luxury in the region, offering the most luxurious guest accommodation of any beachfront resort, whilst placing an emphasis on privacy. The resort will evoke a true ‘sense of place’, using materials that showcase the natural elements of Hainan with a contemporary feel. Jean Michel Gathy, Principal of Denniston International Architects, has been engaged for the design, working with Kerzner’s development and design team lead by Sol Kerzner, Chairman, Kerzner International and Alan Leibman, CEO. Jean Michel was part of the team that developed the award-winning One&Only Reethi Rah in The Maldives for Kerzner International. In addition, Bensley Design Studios will complement the design of the resort through landscape architecture, highlighting the local flora and fauna found on Hainan as well as stunning water features throughout. Guest accommodations will range from 2-4 bedroom private villas and a Presidential suite to executive suites and guest rooms, to be situated within either the main Manor House or Mansions, providing an exclusive, residential feel.
“We are excited to introduce the One&Only experience to China,” commented Mark DeCocinis, President/Chief Operating Officer, One&Only Resorts. “We have the opportunity to redefine the ultra- luxury experience in the region and I am confident that with our partners, we will introduce a truly extraordinary One&Only resort.”
“One&Only Sanya will provide an ultra-luxury private holiday experience for guests with discreet butler service with a strong connection to the local culture. We look forward to welcoming luxury travelers from around the world,” says He Jian Sheng, Chairman, China Gezhouba Group Real Estate. “I believe that the first resort co-developed by China Gezhouba Group Real Estate and Kerzner will be a great success.”
The six private villas, offering either two, three or four bedrooms, will provide vast indoor and outdoor space, complete with private pools and barbeque areas. Each villa will welcome guests through a courtyard, which leads to an expansive living and dining area, opening to a spacious terrace. Private outdoor living spaces will include day beds, chaise lounges and dining al fresco – a perfect set-up to enjoy private outdoor dining and personal family time. The Manor House will provide a stylish residential feel with entry level guest rooms of generous proportion – a minimum of 70 square metres — providing some of the largest guest rooms in Sanya. Each of these guest rooms will have a separate seating area and a spacious terrace or balcony, overlooking the azure waters of the South China Sea or the vast water gardens of the resort. Sumptuous bathrooms are designed for relaxation with every thoughtful detail including a free-standing bathtub, separate rainfall shower and dual vanities.
In addition, the Manor House will feature six Executive Suites that offer an impressive 141 square metres of space with a plush lounge, pantry for entertaining, dining room for six plus a guest bathroom. The expansive master bathroom will offer a rainfall shower, as well as an oversized bath overlooking the South China Sea. The suite’s sprawling terrace will offer dual day beds, as well as opportunity to dine al fresco.
The Presidential Suite, also in the Manor House, will welcome guests with a private lobby to the 350 metre suite, providing two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. An impressive living room, with floor to ceiling windows and a baby grand piano, opens on to a large terrace - creating the perfect place for intimate gatherings and entertaining. The Presidential Suite will offer dining for 10, supported by both a wet and dry kitchen, as well as dining al fresco for 6 on the terrace. The Master Bedroom will feature a private study and expansive en suite bath, both offering secluded terraces. The walk-in wardrobe will provide grand space and thoughtful organization. The second bedroom will be perfect to relax and unwind with a beautifully appointed en suite bath and separate lounge. A private bedroom for staff will also be available.
Five low rise Mansions will offer an elevated sense of privacy and space with separate courtyard entrance and a mix of guest rooms and suites — some with private pools. Accommodation may be reserved individually or entire Mansions may be reserved to provide the perfect private accommodation for families or friends travelling together.
Haitang Bay offers stunning views of the South China Sea, which has influenced the design of both the public and private spaces of the resort. True to the brand’s heritage, One&Only Sanya will offer a variety of world-class cuisines showcasing regional specialties in restaurants overseen by internationally-acclaimed chefs. The resort will also house an indulgent One&Only Spa and state-of-the-art fitness centre incorporating all elements of wellbeing, health and fitness. The spa will fuse ancient eastern traditions and holistic practices with more western spa therapies and will also include an authentic Hammam, long having played a part in the cultural and social life of eastern cities. Meeting spaces within the resort provide generous space and beautiful design for bespoke gatherings, whether a wedding, milestone celebration or business meeting. Ultra-luxury brands will feature prominently as part of the resort’s retail shopping experience. And as with all One&Only properties, the resort will boast innovative programming for families, including the celebrated KidsOnly Club, OneTribe for ‘tweens’ (ages 9-12) and older teen activities as well. Guests will also have access to a vast range of unique sporting and entertainment facilities on-site.
