Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement." A series of poses harnesses the power of inhaling and exhaling with fluid, almost dance-like movements. Physically, sweat expels toxins and re-energizes the body. Mentally, the synchronized breathing relaxes the mind and helps to release any blockage of energy.
Pilates focuses on what founder Joseph Pilates called the "powerhouse," often referred to as the core. Every exercise and movement involves abdominal, back, buttock and upper leg muscles, whilst adhering to principles of concentration, fluidity, balance, centering, breathing and control.
