Gosht Nizami Dalcha: Lamb Shank Curry

For Tenderising Dal:

  1. Take a pan, add chana dal, water, turmeric powder, salt and boil until the dal is tenderised. Cook it for about 10 minutes.

For Lamb Curry:

  1. In a pot, heat oil, add cinnamon stick, add the onion slices and sauté for a while, add ginger garlic paste, then saute well
  2. Add the mutton pieces and fry for a while, add salt, red chilli powder, pinch of turmeric, coriander powder, add tomato puree and stir well
  3. Add a little water and cook until the lamb gets soft
  4. To the cooked mutton, lastly combine everything that is the dal with tamarind pulp and the lamb curry. Add to it garam masala powder, coriander leaves, curry leaves
  5. Bring the whole mixture to the boil
  6. Garnish with gold leaves
  7. Serve with dosa potato.


For the Dal:
2 small cups soaked chana dal (Bengal gram)
1 tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup water

For the Lamb Curry:
500 gms lamb shank washed and clean
2 tbsp oil
½ cup onions finely sliced
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
½ tsp garam masala
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 cinnamon stick
8 to 10 pcs green cardamom
5 pcs clove
1 tsp coriander leaves
1 cup tomato pure
1 tsp tamarind pulp
