About Chef Ian Coogan:
Born and raised in New York City, Ian grew up in a family that loved good food. The guiding rule at the dinner table was to “try everything once before saying ‘no.’” From a very early age, Ian knew that he wanted to become a chef. During his senior year at Columbia University, Ian started working part-time at Murray’s Cheese Shop on Bleecker Street. After college, Ian accepted the position of manager at Murray’s Cheese Shop, and then helped as part of the opening team for the Grand Central Station location. Ian decided to return to school to earn his degree from the French Culinary Institute. Upon graduation in December 2004, he began working at Eleven Madison Park, working his way to tournant, and when Chef Daniel Humm took over, he worked as his poissonier. Following his time at Eleven Madison Park, Ian applied for a job at The Core Club, where he met Chef Dan Kluger. Starting as a line cook, Ian worked his way up to Executive Sous Chef. After The Core Club, Ian continued to work with Chef Dan Kluger as part of the opening team for ABC Kitchen. He helped build and grow ABC Kitchen, which earned the title of “Best New Restaurant” from the James Beard Foundation. Three years later, Jean Georges tapped him as the opening chef de cuisine for ABC Cocina.
