Artisanal details

A modern interpretation of classic Mexican style, guest rooms feature carved wooden doors, travertine flooring, studded leather furniture and bold artwork by local creatives in deep blues and reds. Traditional palapa decks are dotted throughout the resort, their open-sided huts allowing the cool breeze to flow.

Inspired by the charro costumes of the mariachis, Mexico’s cultural ambassadors, One&Only Palmilla’s staff uniforms are also works of art. Each one is handwoven by members of the Huichol tribe in the mountains around Jalisco, with indigenous Mexican motifs and colourful embroidery. They are paired with a woven leather belt and a bag, some made of horsehair. Mexican designer Pineda Covalin has also contributed to the look, custom making pre-Hispanic silk ties.

Arrival rituals

We greet everyone with the fingers of our right hand closed, softly resting on our hearts. This symbolic gesture is our way of welcoming you to the resort and echoes an ancient, forgotten tradition from the Huichol tribe, from Riviera Nayarit, who believe that when you receive someone into your home, your heart must be clean and pure. We welcome you with an open heart, and invite you to ring the ritual bell to announce your arrival.

The resort’s entrance is through the historic main building. Rugged and rustic yet romantic, the original architecture is a breathtaking expression of hacienda style with arcaded silhouettes, clay roof tiles and colonnades, dotted with Mexican touches.
