Athens is a year-round destination. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the best times to visit, with warm sunshine, comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and fewer crowds at the Acropolis. July and August bring long, hot days that are ideal for the beaches and sailing along the Athenian Riviera. Winter is mild and quieter, a good season for museums, galleries and city walks. Greece uses the euro, and cards are widely accepted, though some cash is useful for smaller tavernas and kiosks. Greek is the official language, but English is spoken throughout hotels, restaurants and the main sightseeing areas. One&Only Aesthesis sits on the coast in Glyfada, around 40 minutes from Athens International Airport and 30 minutes from the city centre, making it an ideal base for Athens day trips.
